Founded in 2004 by Ron Camplin (OAM) & Stephanie Camplin (OAM) from Radio 2BS and BRock FM, the Mac Phil performs sell-out concerts throughout the Central West. We have a broad benefactor and musicians base from the Blue Mountains to Dubbo, Forbes and Running Stream. We bring together musicians and audiences to experience beautiful classical music in the wonderful venues and concert halls in our region.
We have a strong focus on mentoring young musicians, supporting our talented young people with the Camplin and Thompson Concerto Prizes, and by providing integral mentoring and performance opportunities to young regional & remote musicians. We also provide opportunities for our many professional musicians to perform, mentor and rehearse together.
We are generously supported by many local councils, businesses and individuals throughout the region. We are very grateful for the generosity of founders and patrons Ron & Stephanie Camplin and inaugural Musical Director Fiona & Colin Thompson for their support of the Concerto Prizes.
We have been performing with local musicians and music students throughout the Central West of NSW since 2004, with performances spanning the region, including Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Young, Forbes, Parkes, Gulgong, Lithgow and Cowra.
Our 2019 season will be huge, with concerts planned for March, July, and November throughout the Central West, plus the third year of our annual Concerto Competition, where young Australian musicians win the opportunity to perform with the orchestra, along with the $2000 Camplin Prize (for Australian musicians aged 25 yrs and under) and the $1000 Thompson Prize (for Central West musicians aged 20 yrs and under).
We have performed at the Parkes Observatory, Western Plains Zoo, Mayfield Gardens, in town halls, civic theatres, entertainment centres and more. Our commitment to the region ensures that high-quality classical music is available to audiences who perhaps would not have ordinarily had the opportunity to experience full orchestral productions.
