Ron & Stephanie Camplin (OAM)

Founders & Patrons - Camplin Prize

Ron and I have had a lifelong love of classical music: Ron from his 70 year career in Regional Commercial Broadcasting when on 2MG he conducted Sunday classical music sessions, and myself when in late High School I came to join the Sydney Youth Orchestra as second clarinettist. It was so thrilling to play in a full orchestra in the Sydney Town Hall.

When we formed “The Macquarie Philharmonia – Australia’s Inland Symphony Orchestra” back in 2004,  part of the reason was to mentor young  talented musicians in such an orchestra, alongside their teachers who live and teach in regional NSW who would form the core of the orchestra’s professional musicians. The idea was to travel to regional and remote audiences to give them the opportunity to enjoy quality classical music performed by those living amongst them.

With the outstanding talents of inaugural Musical Director Fiona Thompson who guided and managed the orchestra, 14 years on, the now  “Macquarie Symphony Orchestra” continues with a new committee at the helm and exciting ideas to take it further into the future. The Committee kindly named us Patrons some years ago, and as we stepped back from day to day fundraising, we were delighted to sponsor the annual Camplin Prize.
